Racing with SRMs

cavendish-sprint 2-sIf you read cycling and triathlon magazines and look closely at the photos, you may have noticed that a lot of world-class athletes use their SRM Systems not only for training but also for racing.

Why do they do that? First of all it helps them to control their performance level during a race, for example Ironman-triathletes try to ride steadily and evenly to stay in their perfect performance zone so that they are able to run their marathon at a high level after their 180 km ride. Another example is road cyclists in a breakaway, in this case their SRMs can give them important information so that they don't overpace their effort.

Competition is the best exercise testing. Very often athletes are able to compete on a higher level than while riding for training, and the data from these performances give very helpful information for their training. These are the real exercise tests that help to increase the quality of training. If you know what you are able to do in a race and what you might need to do to be better next time, it is much easier to motivate yourself for specific training sessions and to write specific, very individual training plans.
